can't understand this goverment they want to tax us of the road, with toll charges. public transport is a joke fares are far to high, so what are we to do. Why cant this goverment see that public transport must be first class and affordable and then we will use it. which in turn, will take a lot of cars of the roads.

Short termism. Because there is a general election every four years or so, the politicians only care about winning the next one with catchy sound bites and propoganda.

For the same reason, rail operaters will not invest, because their franchise expires every few years.

The first thing I associated this question with when I read it in the listing's was "Britain". I agree, the transport system is appauling - increasing road tax, toll fees, fuel prices doesn't mean that all the money collected goes towards helping to sort out the problem. No, it goes into the back pocket of ministers and secretaries pockets with a tiny percentage left aside for environmental issues and other "charity cases".

They need to spend much more money on our public transport before people will start to recognise that the system could be worthwhile. They also need to stop closing branch lines - that is REALLY encouraging people to use alternative transport isn't it!!!

It's like that bloke from Ryan Air arguing against the new airport environment taxes - he has a right to argue due to the fact that he had hardly any evidence that the money they he will need to pay in tax will go to environmental problems!

I agree with Ebenezer, the government never look beyond their term in office, seems to me things are worse now then I can remember and spiralling downwards. All they seem to do is bite the hands that feed them.

The transport policy, opposes itself where 'easy target' motorists are penalised for using the roads with petty speeding fines, high fuel prices and road tax yet public transport is, very poor and expensive.

Of course Transport is only one of the elements where the government are failing us. There are also issues with :

Housing, where some parts of society are getting easy money hand outs and free housing.

Immigration, something the government seem to have absolutely no control over.

High taxation, How much more of our money does Blair want to splash on Afganistan and Iraq when he is closing the last remaining ammunition producing factory in the uk?

Sorry but i don't think i will be voting for him again.

i dont get it either, but what is more outrages, is when i take the toll road by my house the speed limit is only 65mph and there are 3 cops within a quarter mile, if im paying to use the road i should be able to go as fast as i want, im not asking to be able to go 110 but they couldput the speed limit at at least 85

in most cases, it truly is more most cost effective--note the "-er"--than letting all of us force one human being to a vehicle, or in spite of carpooling. See, even if you carpool in an SUV, six at a time, you're really splitting the fee of the motorcar, gas, parking, insurance and upkeep, six techniques at maximum. At maximum. With a mass transit bus, that fee might want to be chop up 20 techniques on your accepted day, in step with round holiday on a route. inspite of the indisputable fact that the seize is: to benefit on that relief in cost-in step with-motorcar, you should merely run a good number of routes and _crowd_ the hell out of the buses. and there is absolute self assurance: it sucks in undesirable climate. and many folk on the bus--riders and drivers alike--are bitter sorts with extreme thoughts-set issues. And hygiene freaks are not gonna like the experience, absolute self assurance. yet what's the alternative? Giving all of us an electric powered motorbike or moped (like on the city China), proscribing suitable speeds to twenty miles in step with hour and having very lenient license criteria, presented you may experience the component and in no way make extreme noise? (as in step with cutting-edge regulation for motorized bicycles in Illinois, by ways) Even then you truthfully have the undesirable-climate issues. nevertheless. And sweaty riders, nevertheless. and human beings taking area in the snob/type-conflict card, nevertheless. And that assumes all of us can experience a bicycle--not all of us can. Why hate on public transportation? no human being's making you employ it, and for the most area, you're literally not being made to pay for it both--a good number of mass transit amenities are privately run on _their own money_.

Because uppermost in this government's mind is how to put money in their coffers. Making life better for us never enters their heads.
