With my son it did not help. He didn't sleep all night until he was 12 months old. By then he was eating more solid food during the day. He also had his first tooth at 6 months. My doctor told me not to feed him cereal until he was around 4 months and then it's very little at a time. you just have to work up from there. Their little tummies are not able to digest solid food before around 4 months. I think it gave him gas which made him even more fussy and crying.

I fed my baby BeechNut rice ceral before bedtime with warm formula. It did help her stay asleep, but the most crucial thing is that she's comfortable, that it's not too cold or warm in the room and that she has a dry diaper on, and has been throughtly burped.
I added other things to the mix: Warm bath, lotion massage (J&J's lavender lotion) dim lights and sing a low lullaby (the song from It's a Big Big World always calmed mine down) also: is the temperature in the room comfortable? Make sure she's not overdressed or underdressed. If it's nippy, a blanket sleeper will do the trick. If it's room temperature a light cotton footed coverall will do. Close the door and turn the monitor off. Make it a habit to put her in bed with the same routine every night at the same time. This will set her into a schedule. Good luck!

I give my 3 month old 1 tablespoon in 2 oz. formula bottle before bed and I think it works. Although, my bub has been sleeping through the night for about 1 month and a half now. I put her down at 8pm and she doesn't wake back up until about 5a.m. but then she sleeps during that feeding until about 8a.m. I feel very lucky. I just felt bad that she was going that long w/out eating so I started doing the formula/cereal thing for the last week. She loves it. I give her 4 oz. of regular formula prior to the last 2 oz. w/cereal. I pick her up to burp her after the cereal bottle and her body is limp, and full and she crashes on my shoulder while I burp her. She's so sweet. I can't wait to get home to her. I miss her. I'm at work for 3 more mins. Have fun w/your little one!

Your doctor is absolutely right. It helps, it keeps their tummies fulll longer which means they usually sleep longer. It was a Godsend with my second child Tyler, who was just a large baby and was hungry all the time. It isn't going to hurt to try it, then you will find out if it works for your baby as well, hopefully both of you will be getting some better sleep!

I heard likewise, and got convinced to try cereal with my 5 months old. The first night, he slept a lot longer than usual! But by the second night, he was back to his old pattern... (waking up about 5 times a night). A bit frustrating!

This is very true. Not even you can go to bed on an empty stomach. Babies need food too. She/he will sleep through the night! i promise. And if it's hot double plus !

i have a 2 year old daughter and a 8 month old daughter. they are SO completely different (in personality wise) and my 2 year old slept better with full stomach ( i mean food rather than just formula) and then there is my youngest.... NOTHING helps!! she wakes up no matter what. so i guess the answer is it depends on the child. but i do believe cereal is healthy so feed her it anyway (less bottles, better teeth). p.s. i am assuming it's the infant cereal you mix with the formula.

Don't put your baby to bed on a full stomach. You can feed the baby cereal before bed but the Dr's say its best to let your little one digest it for atleast a half hour before you lay him/her down.

Trends change every few years. right now professionals are saying no to cereal for babies under 4 months.
older babies may benefit to a snack before bed...I mean after all we like a bedtime snack right?
