I have lived in Oklahoma City all my life and am terrified about the prospect of living in Washington, I have always been under the impression its cold and rainy compared to OKC. Please can anyone offer any advice on relocating to a military community and/or any comments on that area??

Being married to a service member means lots and lots of moves. Depending on his branch and/or job he will be moving every 2-6 years and you will obviously be moving along with him. If he is planing on being in until retirement, then you need to get used to moving around. I married when I was 19 and was terrified of leaving my hometown. I had never even been out of the state. It was hard to leave and hard to adjust to but it was a wonderful adventure. Every city/state has things that are special about it. You will love and hate different things no matter where you live.Just remember, you are only a plane ride away from a visit home. And as for things that you have heard about the weather, don't believe them. Our first duty station was San Diego, CA and all I heard about was how it is never over or under 72 and how it is always sunny and never rains......bull, it gets cold as anything here and it get hot as heck. It also has a lot of rainy days. So don't believe what you hear. If you move onto base, then you always have lots of neighbors to start your friend base. And then if you get a job, friends there. There are also programs to help military wives meet, just ask your hubby to look into it for you. Go into your move as an adventure. You never know, you may like it way more then OKC. Good luck!!

It does rain, but it can be really pretty around here too. The rain makes things green. It is kind of strange when you leave everything you know behind, but people are generally pretty decent up here in Washington. There are some beautiful places to go on a day trip, across the Hood Canal Bridge to the Olympic Peninsula. All kinds of visitors centers with pamphlets that show all kinds of things you might like to do. Get a good map and start investigating the area you will be living in. You can walk on a ferry into Seattle and have a great day there. Bring yourself a nice album of all you favorite things back home, but try to come with an open mind to new experiences and you will meet people. I hope your time here is good for you and your new mate..... congrats!

military spend 5 yrs in bremerton. i liked it! weather included. sure it rains, but look on the bright side it could be snow. the naval base is right down town(state hwy 303) by the sound. there's a nex and a commissary on the base. the commissary not bad for grocery shopping(cheaper). the naval hospital and housing is separate from the naval base, which is located off hwy 3. the naval hospital has some really good medical staff. also close to fort lewis in tacoma if you have referral. bremerton has a great location. your on the kitsap peninsula..water everywhere can see mt rainer and the olympic mtns. seattle a ferry ride away. the town of silverdale and port orchard aren't that far away. silverdale has a mall and target. port orchard has walmart and cute down town section. there is an walmart in e. brermerton. also the sub base bangor is just north of silverdale and it has not to bad of a military movie theater. if you want call my cell# 360 649 3608

I grew up partially in Orlando, Florida and then lived in the Seattle area where Bremerton is located. A lot of people who have never been to Washington state exagerate how rainly or cloudy it is in the area. Although Orlando is in the "Sunshine state" it rains there almost as much as Seattle....Seattle may have about 10 days of rain more than Orlando. As for temperatures I expect them to be lower than OKC. However Seattle has cool summers....low to mid 80s is normal and mild winters. Cold enough to snow once in a while but I only remember snowing once or twice a year.

The sad thing about relationships such as this is that you had the opportunity to discuss the division of labor and everything else before the marriage and just didn't. It looks like he has settled in because you are doing everything without complaint. Men (at least the traditonalists) often expect their wife to run the house. It seems as if he also expects to be very comfortable at home, even to the point of not bathing.... As we say ..the honeymoon is over. If you have a career, tell him you need to talk about dividing the household chores because you are just too tired or busy to do them all, just don't do some things anymore and see if he notices, or ask him to help so that you can then have time together. The longer you let it go on, the less likely he will be to change. My boyfriend used to flop onto the sofa when I was preparing dinner at his home, he seemed to expect me to do it all. I just went to him, and very sweetly (with a kiss etc.) told him he didn't have to help if he didn't want to, but I needed him to be near me while I cooked. That seemed to focus him on my needing him, rather than on me telling him what to do...and men like to be needed. He began coming to the kitchen without being asked, and then began asking how he could help...we now cook every meal together, and clean up afterward too. Good luck.

Having been to both places I prefer the NW. Unlike OKC there are mountains and no tornados. With all of hte trees and mountains, you may feel a bit claustrophobic at first, but the summers are beautiful. Hardly any humidity and the rain keeps everything green. The military community supports each other and itself. There are wives clubs and support systems. People will understand.

Washington is a beautiful state. Lots of trees. We do get our share of rain, but we also get our share of good weather. I live about an hour N.E of Seattle and where I am living we have partial sunshine today. We did have bad snowstorms and windstorms this winter, but that is not usual for us.
