There is some crooked **** going on in the Mountain state, as well as the rest of the country, and I just want to know if there is actually a decent, human lawyer still out there.

Start by filing a complaint with the West Virginia Bar Association. If they deny your complaint and you feel it has merit, appeal the decision (read the rules, including the fine print, carefully on how to file a complaint).
If your complaint has merit and the attorney has been found to have violated ethics or the law, you will have more luck getting an attorney. Many attorneys also carry malpractice insurance for these types of things. You might want to check that too.
Beware, there's probably a statute of limitations on the matter. Check it out thoroughly.
