I have a good question to ask. My friend, first off, wants to go skydiving like her dad does every now and then, but she doesn't want to go bungee jumping, which is strange, because I consider it safer than skydiving, but that is my opinion and not based on a whole lot of facts.

So the question is, which one is safer: Skydiving or bungee jumping?

Indeed a good question.

I am a skydiver and I've already done a bungee jump and I have to say that the idea of doing a bungee jump is a lot less appealing than skydiving.

First because the feeling of skydiving is just incredible and it lasts a lot longer and I also think bungee is probably scarier for the simple reason that the ground is a lot closer.

Imagine that you put yourself at the edge of a tall building or on the top on a mountain looking down. Even though the mountain is higher, you will probably be more afraid when looking down from the building. I think it’s the same as with bungee and skydiving.

As for which one is the most dangerous, I think you would have to do some extensive research on each sport fatalities.... but my humble opinion is that skydiving is probably more dangerous, simply because a lot more things can go wrong.

Also... landing a parachute involves a lot more skill than being attached to an elastic.

Just out of curiosity picked my Skydiving insurance and looked at the list of coverage for different sports.

For instance, sportsycoverdirect:

http://www.sportscoverdirect.com/action/browse.py/searchsport?product=1

They consider bungee jumping in the group 3 category along with boxing, american wrestling, caving, ski racing, etc etc and put skydiving in group 4.

So according to this insurance company, skydiving is more dangerous than bungee jumping, and I'm sure they did their homework...

But if you are looking for a dangerous sport Have a look at number 1: it’s curiously a mixture of both bungee jumping (jumping from buildings) and skydiving (use of parachute).

BASE Jumping - BASE stands for Building, Antennae, Span and Earth - these being the fixed objects that masters of this incredibly dangerous sport jump from.

BASE jumpers will jump with a parachute off any tall structure including skyscrapers, electrical towers, bridges and cliffs. In the past, BASE jumpers have lept from the Golden Gate Bridge, the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building.

People who try this sport almost always end up arrested (it's not exactly legal) and many don't even live long enough to get arrested!

I've heard more stories of the cable snapping bungee jumping and apparently it can hurt your back. But i guess they're both a bit dangerous

I've been skydiving and am planning on doing a course so i can jump by myself.... sky diving is one of the best things you could ever do!! sky diving definately is best. Just make sure she checks out the place she goes through, but if her dad goes through that place then it should be fine!!!

Skydiving is much safer than bungee jumping and more fulfilling. Go tandem (with the instuctor on your back).
2000 feet of freefalling will change your life.

well they both have their risks
with bungee jumping, the cord breaking
with sky diving, parachute failure
i think the most safe would be skydiving
even though your higher you still have a backup chute and like 10 mins to get it out but with bungee jumping you dont have a backup cable AND your going head first

but it really does depend on where your bingee jumping too
