it sounds like the the engine idle is set too low...what that is is that when your car is first started then the engine runs at idle...if you have a rev counter it should run at about 700-900 rev per min...to run at idle the setting is really precise...if its a little low the car has a gap in the petrol flow and sparking as you decelerate and it conks out...it is a really simple adjustment if that is the cause...the power steering although is an issue..but only in that its doing a normal thing...so do not worry there......so what can you do...well if you have a trusty haynes manual it may show the adustment...so a screwdriver and a few mins could solve the prob......but if you feel its beyond you..then the local garage will help...or remember the aa or rac..both would sort this out in a tick.

Idle air control valve, bolts on at the side of the throttle body. Remove and try cleaning out with some brake fluid. Failing that replace it, try and get one from somewhere other than mitsubishi, will be expensive there.

Cannot say for certain, but I had a similar sounding thing on a Fiat Ulysee. The fault was some sort of Lambda probe which analysed the emissions.

I had a Volvo S40 it has the 1.8 Mitsubishi engine,it would Rev up , the Volvo main dealer could not fix it. After 4 attempts they failed to fix it, and after about 20 near hits , we had to get a new engine. This is not the news you want sorry. Its got something to do with the engin management system.

the idle RPM in Your car is too low.
take to mechanic for spark plug change, claim the book manual said so..
do not mention any problem until after.
they will adjusted (the idle rpm)
the power steering has nothing...it goes off with the engine.

Sounds like it needs a service, or the tick over is too low
Seek advice from a mechanic.
