Usually milk. My car gets this smell from time to time and there's usually a sippy cup that has been missing for sometime under the seat.
Good Luck and God Bless

Perhaps it could be a cracked sewer line, or a gas leak nearby, if not on your property. Now for the "way out there" answer.....maybe you have paranormal activity going on in your home. Did you recently have a seance, or use a Ouija board? Did you ask for "something" to prove it was there? If so your home could smell like anything from rotten meat, to flowers blooming. These are all just possibilities, and it would help to know how long the smell has been present. If you live near a chemical plant, then odd scents can waft into your home. I'm just guessing here, but like I've said before, these are all possibilities.

If your house has a crawl space check under there for a broken pipe. This happened to my family. The pipe that drained the kitchen sink and washing machine never had a clamp, as we discovered, put on to hold adjoining pipes together. Over a period of time the two pipes came apart and the dish water and wash water were draining under the house and the smell was horrendous. Check it out!!!

Check the top of your toilet tank for mold. And also make sure someone didn't poop in it as a prank. Gross but if you have friends like mine....
Also look in weird places for food that was hidden so it would maximize the stink. Heating vents and stuff. I know this sounds really bad, but I have hidden cheese in a friends house before. Hey, I was young and needed the money, don't judge me!

.something may have gotten spilled on the carpet. Milk can smell pretty bad. Check your drip pan under the refrigerator also. Those are the only things that I can think of. Good luck finding out!

You know what, I have the same problem. It's the heating and cooling system starting. The first air that comes out smells like that. It happens all the time, even in new houses, like mine. I have no clue why it does that, but it is wierd.

When dairy goes bad, sometimes it gives a vomit smell. Could be food left somewhere strange. Keep checking, you'll find it.

It may be your drains. Clean all of them using baking soda, vinegar or lemon juice. Let it sit for about an hour in the drain before rinsing down with cold water.

I don't know why this happens but sometimes if you use that carpet powder that smells good it ruins the vacuum. Everytime you use the vacuum after that it stinks like throw up. It's happened to me!
