I really don't get it. What is this word used for?

Emo was originally used to describe a type of music, for emotional hardcore, but now everyone uses it to describe on someone based on their looks, and they look like goths/punks. Emo can also be used to describe a person who is over emotional and gets hysterical.

It's a type of music that spawned from punk and used to sound entirely different then what it sounds like now.
Emo stands for emotional, which is where all the whiny bands come in.

emo is just another label they made up for not so preppy but not so gothic people...just people who like to wear black....and people who like to wear hollister and at the same time wear like hot-topic stuff...
