Just curious, why are there no Filipino food restaurants in downtown or central San Francisco? With a total population of 45,793 or 5.9% of the SF total, you'd think there would be a market for this?

On a related question, why are there so many many Thai food places? In the Castro alone there are six different Thai food places within three blocks.

There's not as large a demand for that type of cuisine. There are handfuls in the Daly City area (which has a significant Filipino population), some of which are more the "take out" types rather than fine dining establishments.

Thai has a much greater general appeal because of the less radical flavors and seasonings relative to Filipino cooking. One can argue that Filipino cuisine almost assaults your tastes buds because of the strength of the flavors whereas Thai is a bit softer and caresses the palette. This is not to be confused with the relative spiciness of the different cuisines.

You've got to be kidding! SF has every kind of food imaginable! Well, there's a business opportunity for someone!

Thai? Because Thai food is divine! I know of three right near the UCB campus right off hand, and two of them are right next door to each other! Thai food is just really popular, and with reason!

Don't know why there are so few in S.F. but if you're willing to drive a little, there're several of them in Vallejo.
