I know that in 2001, is when Mariah's career slumped. I always wondered what made her career slump downhill.

She had a nervous breakdown, got reclusive for a short while. Then she came back out and made 'Glitter" Big boo-boo. Not the best way to reassert her career. Since then she has been digging her way back out.

Well, she went a bit crazy if you remember right after her big flop that was Glitter.
Plus she is getting older. Show biz requires youth. Mariah is almost 40, and she still dresses like a young 20 year old. She needs to mature into her age and begin the next phase of her career. Gosh, knows she has the talent but those trying to hang onto their youth (like Janet Jackson) set themselves up to fail.
I am in no way saying that she should hang it up but she is making a joke out of herself, she is becoming a caricature and people don't take her seriously and that is hard to overcome no matter how talented you are.

People fade. Her fans went onto Brittany Spears, and N*sync.
I'm suprised Maddonna hasn't fallen off the face of the earth. But didn't Maria Cary get into the Diva's along with Tina Turner.
Plus she kinda let herself go that last couple years, she lost skin pigment and got kinda flabby. He voice got really whispy too, I couldn't even understand what she was singing her last year.
But she will always be a classic. Like my parents have Simon and Garfunkle

I think she performed some sort of a striptease on MTV's Total Request Live. The backlash/ mocking that ensued combined with the negative reviews for Glitter probably drove her over the edge.

I think at a time when she desperately needed something new, she chose the wrong style.She seemed(to me) desperate when she changed her style to one that didn't showcase her talent nearly as much...(all high pitched all the time)...
the weird thing is she seems way more confident and self absorbed now!

That slump was at the hand of Tommy Matola...Why with her voice would you do a remix to Cameo word up? That is why everyone was so impressed with her latest album MIMI....Thank goodness....I was done with her, but she made me give her a 2nd shot. GO MIMI

i think the fact that she supposidly had some sort of mental break down has a lot to do with it. also, the fact that she became such a diva supposidly demanding crazy and outlandish things for dressing rooms and hotel rooms or she wouldn't preform made a lot of people, myself included, lose a lot of respect for her and her career. a lot of people just got tired of her attitude and demands and her in general.

The movie Glitter didnt help, plus the fact that she is a bit loonie, but she is the hottest piece of a** out there.... oh those long legs!
