I did a search and found these books. Unfortunately, I haven't read any of them except for The Star Spangled Secret (which was quite good), so I have no idea if they'll help or not! I think that the theory is that all of these books are chapter books, but some are children's books and therefore might be a bit juvenile. The author is listed before the title.
1. Benton, Amanda
Silent stranger
2. Trottier, Maxine
Under a shooting star
3. Alder, Elizabeth
Crossing the panther's path
4. Rinaldi, Ann
Second bend in the river, The
1. Pearson, Kit
Whispers of war: the War of 1812 diary of Susanna Merritt
2. Greeson, Janet
American army of two, An
3. Whelan, Gloria
Once on this island
4. Minahan, John
Abigail's drum
5. Wiley, Melissa
On Tide Mill Lane
6. Kimball, K. M.
Star-spangled secret, The
7. Lunn, Janet Louise Swoboda
Laura Secord: a story of courage
8. Rinaldi, Ann
Broken days
9. McCully, Emily Arnold
Battle for St. Michaels, The
10. Bartoletti, Susan Campbell
Flag maker, The
There were more, but I didn't know if it would help or not to type up the world's longest post. If you have a library card, then you can probably access the site where I got them- http://novelst4.epnet.com/NovApp/novelist/core.aspx?sid=1470235B-FBB1-4273-9EEF-AC8AA467F7F2%40sessionmgr2&control=home. Click "Search our Database" then "Describe a Plot." I typed in "war" and "1812." But if not, email me and I can get you the rest!

Go to Wikipedia.org or go amazon.com and type in "a breif U.S. History" It will cover the war of 1812 between The United States of America and the British Colonies of Canada.

that depends on what time period. i have "General Ike" by John S.D. Eisenhower, "Reflections on the Civil War" by Bruce Catton, and "The Evil 100" by Martin Gilman Wolcott. All are very good books that go into great depth explaining each of the time periods and subjects that they cover.
