I don't know what age the transition should be. The min age to consent to sex is 18 in some states, 16 in others. Driving is another topic, as is voting and legal responsibility for your own actions (which is also situational as there have been pre teens charged as adults for really nasty crimes)

Heck, I was just reading about a 13 year old boy and a 14 year old girl that had sex together. They were both charged with statutory rape of the other for the same act with each other. Consensual or not, how can you be both victim and perpetrator of the same criminal event? The boy's charges stuck and he's on appeal - if he looses he has to register as a sex offender for life. The girl's charges were dropped. Sex crimes and family law are a bit misandinous these days though. Makes no sense, but that's the law for you and a good example of how maybe a bit more case by case common sense would be better than arbitrary ages, minimum sentences and whatnot.

So, its all contextual I think. There has to be a line somewhere I suppose, but any line you draw is still going to be arbitrary. Some 10 year olds can probably drive more responsible and safer than some 80 year olds out there.

I just laugh that from a legal perspective, you are generally considered to be a vegetable until 12:01 am on your 18th birthday. That's the moment you, from a legal standpoint, magically and instantaneously grow a brain.

I think that the age of an adult should be when one is legal to do everything, so I'd vote 21. Though, I think that a person knows just as well what they are doing at 18, like for a crime or something.

Minors are to be considered of legal age at 13 for smoking and driving. At 16 they are grownups for drug purposes and some alcohol, except gin and bourbon, which cause some anxiety in pregnant women. At 18 they are taking full risponsability and are dependable on statehood. At 21 a manor is due overcome.

Being 18 they are already considered adults, and I know in TX a person who is 17 can go to jail as an adult.

I was in the military at 17, and was prepared to fight and possibly die for my country, but was unable to buy a drink in most states. I think anyone over 18 should be allowed to function in society as an adult, unless they have caused some reason to be treated otherwise.

That is a double-edged sword. On the one hand they are old enough to fight and die for the country but I've found that few eighteen-year-olds have good life experience and good judgment. The mere fact that they enlist at those young ages shows a lack of good judgment to me. Also, the use of alcohol is unwise during the teens. But, when young people commit heinous crimes the government is only too happy for them to be adults.

I think 20 years old is a true adult, but it is just my opinion.
