Whenever you write a research paper, the research part of it means you're using someone else's published research and opinion. To not document your sources is plagiarism, and also disproves your thesis because you can't back up your opinions with actual scholarship.

When doing a research paper, you use sources. The information does not come from you. You must document where you got the information because 1) others reading your work may want to read more about the topic by looking up your sources, and 2) if you do not document, that means you are claiming the work as your own, which is against the law, a crime called Plagiarism.
*If you are in high school and commit Plagiarism, you will most likely just get a Zero.
*If you are in college and commit Plagiarism, you will get kicked out of the class, your money will not be refunded, and you most likely will be kicked out of school.
*If you are an adult and commit Plagiarism, you can be sued because the person that originally wrote your source wants credit for their effort and research that was put into the source that they created, which helped you write your paper. Just the same as you want to recognition and credit/grade for the paper that you write.

You wouldn't want someone taking your ideas and claiming them as their own. That is what you are doing if you do not site your sources in a paper that you write.

because other people have done the actual physcial work to write a paper about what you are researching. documentation is just proof that you did not sit at home and work in your own lab to create the results that the original people did. also, it gives credit where credit is due.

It's just important to see your sources. Plaigarism is increasing. I don't see why you would complain about listing your sources. You have them in front of you all you have to do is copy then down in however format they prefer. People can get ideas, write word from word, and get actual written essays anywhere these days, it's important to list your sources and where you got your information. Don't trip on it, it isn't that hard! lol
