Don't bring someone along with you--that will just add insult to his injury. If it's abuse you're afraid of, just have someone serve papers on him, get a restraining order, and run. If it's just his reaction emotionally that you are afraid of, maybe you need to evaluate the reasons you want this divorce. Sometimes I've thought of divorce, just because of some pathetic fight that seemed like it would never end, or because we were stressed because money was tight. But I've never regretted my decision to stay with my husband--those things do pass.

But if it's abuse, like I said--get out. Now.

Quietly start putting money away to get you out of the house, then move out while he is at work, and leave him a note saying it is over. Then contact the local law enforcement by notifying them of your concerns with his "reaction". Sounds like it would be a dangerous move to tell him what you are wanting up front,be sure you are in a safe, secure environment when he does find out. Also, you can get a restraining order on him for you to get your things out without him being able to stop you. I would immediately contact an Attorney and get the ball rollling to get you out of there, and hopefully there aren't any children who could be hurt in this too. Good luck

The answer above was right, get someone with you, just in case he decides to go bananas. Then just be ready for the question "why do you want a divorce?" and then the "so what happens to the kids/money/house/life?" question and what the compromise will be with that.

Don't get divorced. It is a grave sin against God. Work it out, and keep your wedding vows. Don't break your promise to God. Go to fathercorapi.com to learn more about the sacred sacrament of matrimony.

just pick-up your stuff and go. He'll get the point when he gets home to a 1/2 empty home. Chances are he knows you guys are not doing to well so he is expecting it.

You should really try to work things out, talk to him about what is upsetting you. Marriage is just too easy to get in and out of these days.

maybe have a really close friend be present or a family member just in case. They don't have to be in the room just within close proximity.

Good luck
