Hang on, I'm almost positive that the Running Man credits say it's based on the french book. It's on five now.

I think you are talking about the 1993 film Le Prix du Danger.

Okay, this is not confirmed, but I believe that rumors say that Stephen King based his book The Running Man on a short story titled "The Prize of Peril", which was the basis of Le Prix du Danger. King has never confirmed if he got the idea for the book from the short story, but there are many similarities. Of course, the Schwarzenegger film was based on King's book.

I don't know the name of it, but I do know the film you mean. It was much better than "The Running Man", even though it was much lower budget.

I don't think it was based on a French book, though. The US film was loosely based on a short story by Stephen King (writing under a pseudonym); the French film was much more closely based on that story, particularly the ending, which was darker.

the running man is based on a stephen king story when he wrote under the name richard bachman and is available still in all book shops under that name and also a newer publication under kings name. no french film or book used matey
