Who's to say upgrading to XP will solve anything, but create more problems. Older PC's do not usually have the guts to handle windows XP. Also, that upgrade path is pretty tricky, considering you're jumping 8+ years in OS advancements.

So in answer to your question, NO. Upgrading will not allow her to play games or surf the Internet. I'd post the problem she is having with win95, the exact error message worded properly.

those two operating systems are years apart ... chances are if you have a computer that has Windows95 on it, it is too old to upgrade to WinXP. Win95 machines could get by with 16 megabytes of RAM or less. WinXP needs a lot more - 256meg is barely enough. There are other things like processor speed (the MHz - megahertz rating for example) that make this upgrade inadvisable.

It's time to buy a new one if that's all you have and you are unsatisfied.

If the machine is old, especially if it has Windows 95, you probably can't even get XP to run on it. A better choice might be Windows 98 SE or Windows 2000.

It was a few years back, but I don't think you can update XP over 95.

her computer probably doesn't have the minium requirements to run XP, but if it does you just buy Xp put it into your CD player when your computer is booting up and follow the instructions.

Yeah, a Win95 computer probably won't run WinXP. Way too slow.
