My dad and I purchased a 1995 Mercury Mystique with a rebuilt engine. A few weeks after we bought it, the transmission broke. Needless to say we are suing the person who sold it to us. But, I'm wondering if I should get the transmission rebuilt. Would it be worth it. It seems like a nice car, not too many miles for the year it is and it ran great til the tranny broke?

If the cost to rebuild the transmission is less than an equivalent car in condition.. then go ahead and rebuild it.

instead of having it rebuilt, sometimes it's cheaper to get one from the salvage yard and have somebody put that in. my parents paid about $3000 to have a tranny rebuilt, and it still didn't work and was a whole nother set of headaches. see what they want to rebuild and see if you can find a tranny with low miles. also see if the car has any other problems, such as problems with the engine, steering, brakes, rust, etc...

tell your dad to bring a mechanic (with OBD I scanner) for diagnostic and let us know what codes have......

chances are ........that the transmission only have a loose cable.

depends on how much.. but I would suggest you get a new car. You may have lots of trouble afterward even you think you would have it fixed
