No, I haven't, but I do recall the first time I heard of her.

According to a book I read so many years ago that I couldn't tell you its name if my life depended on it, La Llorona was a native Mexican woman who was the mistress of a Spanish nobleman living in Mexico City in the 1500's. She had two children with him, but he would not marry her because she was a native.

According to this version of the legend, she murdered her children when he married a noblewoman who had come from Spain for this purpose, and was burned at the stake for her crime. Supposedly she wails at midnight in a plaza in Mexico City.

Actually, I think the story of La Llorona is a version of the Greek legend of Medea.
