NFL: Best- San Diego Chargers (at least at the moment based on record)
Worst- Oakland Raiders (worst record, worst shape)
MLB: Best- St. Louis Cardinals (since they won the World Series)
Worst- Kansas City Royals (I'm pretty sure they had the worst record)

This season you can just go by record. I think the Raiders are better than the Lions, though, in the long run, and have more chance to make the playoffs first.
The best team this year is the Chargers, but overall I'd say the Colts, they're the most consistently good in recent history, despite their playoff woes.

NFL Best: Chicago Bears
Worst: Detroit Lions
MLB Best: Maybe the Red Sox this year, although it is still hard to tell(the Cubs are still my favorite).
Worst: Probably Tampa Bay, but again...hard to tell until the season starts.

The Red Sox are # 1, and the Devil Rays are in the cellar
