It was my first job out of college, so when something didn't feel right, I thought it was just me, however, I have recently found out that this company not only scams their employees out of their paychecks, but they scam customers. They're called Cambridge/ Empire/ and Manchester Who's Who, and they change their name and location often. When I worked there, they were based in a nice office building in Uniondale, (Long Island) NY. I recently heard the people in management positions don't even use their real names. The business claims to be a well-known and respected networking tool for business professionals. They have already been reported to the Better Business Bureau, and the complaints are staggering. Check them out:

How do I get them to pay me what I'm owed? They keep dodging me.

File a complaint with your local labor board.

I know that this may sound harsh but it depends on how much money you are talking about. Don't throw good money after bad. Yes, if you can get a lawyer that will do the work and only will ask for payment if you get paid then great. That type of deal may be difficult to find. I do not know how much money you are owed. The suggestions here regarding contacting state agencies are good. Just as an example don't spend $500 to recover $350. Good luck to you.

I had a problem with my last employer short changing me on my last paycheck. They refused to believe they were wrong, so I went to the state employment agency (TWC in Texas) and filed a complaint. The agency was fantastic and very helpful. Once the company got the claim, I received a phone call from the president saying they would pay me. I still had trouble getting the money, but I finally got it after the TWC got involved. It may or may not help you in your situation, but it can't hurt to try if you have a similar agency in your state.

Best bet is get a lawyer! They will usually take a case like that and you pay them after you get the money. At least some attorneys.

Fax a short but precise letter to the attorney general of your state. Sounds like they need to be shut down all together.

The Department of Labor controls wages and not being paid, you'll have to contact them.
