It's a natural reaction to lash out at people who you perceive as trying to get you to do something you don't want to do or you don't have any intention of looking into. If a telemarketer called about something I happened to be interested in or have considered, I could see them getting a better response. But I think feeling coerced into doing or buying something is disagreeable to most people, because they might feel that their right to their own choice is being violated, albeit in a fairly non-threatening way. An additional factor might be that people seem to resent having their privacy being invaded by someone they didn't invite into their homes, cars or wherever their phones happen to be. I never blame the telemarketers themselves and in fact feel somewhat gentle toward them because it's got to be a lousy job, one that they wouldn't have chosen unless they really had to. But on the other hand, it can be tough saying 'no' and not having that answer respected by someone else, which in some cases happens during calls with extremely overzealous telemarketers. That's why I think people lash out at them. It's not personal, it's just a defense.

It takes a certain kind of person to be a leech like that. That is the truth of this situation and if you got a kind heart, then guess what? You are in the wrong job! Only hard-hearted people who like getting into other people's business would harass innocent people. Telemarketers, you ask for it. Now you are complaining that you got the attention you've been asking for?

Unfortunately you can't play pranks on the companies, so the messenger does get the blame. Sorry, but if you don't like it, get a better job.

They call during dinner, they call during bath time, they call during sex time. I hate them and have listed all my numbers on the national do not call list, but they still call. I think telemarketing should be made illegal! If I want something, I can make the call myself.
