Paying a solicitor is dependent on the amount of time and work they do on youre case . also dependent on their level of experience . For example a legal representative whom in the UK gets about £90phr can work on youre case but there work would be overseen by one of the partners . whom usually chargeabout £180 an hour . Again dependent on the work etc . if there is no real dispute then a divorce doesnt really have to be dealt with by the solicitor and can be dealt with by yourself X The Law society would be able to reccomend a good local solicitor.

Only a few hundred pounds but my ex-husband was charged thousands! So pick your solicitor carefully. Go by recommendation if you can. If you ring a few and ask questions about hourly rates you'll get an idea, they'll tell you there's no such thing as an average divorce as no two are the same but if you give a few details and know your spouse isn't going to contest everything at every opportunity it will be quite straightforward if unpleasant.

Zippo, nothing, zilch, you don't really need a solicitor to divorce, you can do that for £30 at your local county court.

Another matter if kids are involved but I don't know much about that.

If you just have property in joint names and one wants to buy the other out then you need to get a document called a Deed of Covenant which is signed by you both, you both need ID so it proves you are who you say you are and the signatures are witnessed by the solicitor. That doesn't cost much. UK answer

I haven't been divorced (yet) but a good friend of mine ran up costs of £17,000. She and her husband were petty and wouldn't discuss anything direct so stupid queries all went through solicitors. even like can I pick up the kids early this weekend. In the end my friends solicitor told her to grow up!
She was on legal aid so probably felt she could do this, but in her case this is really just a loan and the debt is attached to her new house.
I guess the more you can resolve yourself the less the bills. By the way, whilst hers were as above I have reason to believe he spent over £30,000.

$950 the first time
$750 the second time
$550 the third time

All with kids involved

I guess I was a preferred customer.

The second and third time was from the same marriage. I filed for divorce then canceled it to try and work things out but they didn't so I filed again and went through with it that time.

When i was divorced my solicitor charged £60 per hour just to be at court and this went up to £90 per hour when she spoke in court. When you consider how many times your case will be adjourned it could be cheaper to just give in and let them have anything.
