I will be relocating to Minnesota soon, and even though I am quite qualified for a job, I am not getting any responses. Is this because they don't like the risk of knowing that I am out of state right now. Need any advice please.

I think being out of state has little, if anything, to do with the lack of responses. People don't search for jobs in other states for fun; they do it because they seriously plan on moving there. Obviously there are some exceptions though where it would hurt you to be out of state (congressman, local TV anchor, etc).

Maybe you need a stronger resume or a better cover letter. Or you could try calling and talking to HR people who might be able to point you in the right direction.

Employers hire out of state applicants when there is a scarcity of qualified applicants in their area. If you are applying to be a secretary for example there are many highly qualified applicants whose references the employer is familiar with. If you are highly specialized--Cardiothoracic Surgeon for example--employers will quite often fly you in for an interview!

My best advice is to gear your applications towards what makes you uniquely qualified for each job you apply for. They might take a chance on you if your references are excellent.

Some job markets are very tight. I once sent my resume for a job 20 miles away from my house. I was told because of my area code they were looking for someone more local. Many employers are looking for applicants that can start right away. Just make your intentions clear in the cover letter that you are moving to the area on such and such date and what dates you would be in town available for interviews. Best of luck to you.

I'm in Ohio but leaving for Idaho in early Feb. because I got a job there. People will hire you if they feel you are qualified and "serious" about re-locating. However, if you take a job then backout, your name will be out there and then nobody will take a chance.

there is no such usually used regulation. There are some very particular regulations. working example, if a clean public construction (inclusive of a courthouse) is to have a espresso shop or snack shop, then some states have a call for handicapped industries.
