My manager asked me to do a job task that is beyond my level of expertise and did not offer any additional courses or training to assist me and when I told him that I don't mind doing the work but it requires putting in more hours and I need to have my salary reviewed.

It's not against the law. It's the way capitalism works. Bosses can treat workers like Kleenex....get as much out of you as they can, then throw you away.

Maybe you should take it as a compliment that your employer thinks you are more capable than you think you are. In my experience, you have to actually work at the higher level and demonstrate that you can handle the additional responsibility before your employer will even consider giving you a raise. If your manager made a comment about having to find a replacement it is probably in reaction to your poor attitude about taking on a new challenge. I'm sure if you show you are eager to advance by taking on more responsibility, your job will not only be secure but you will be in line for a promotion.

Instead of thinking of fighting him/her on this use it to your advantage, you know he/she does not appreciate you as much as you think you are worth. Find a better employer while you are still getting paid here, then give them your two weeks notice.


ohh, and yes, it is perfectly legal.
