I have three sets in my ears myself and for xmas, I pierced my oldest ears for her second holes.
Its 6 weeks is standard to leave them in. Clean and turn them everyday. Do not remove them until a full six weeks. You are training the hole to remain open and heal.

Don't take it out!
If the piercer gave you crap to clean it with THROW IT OUT. Use regular antibacterial Dial soap 3 times a day with a Q-tip and warm water.
Before the last clean of the day take 2 paper towels, wet one with warm water and hold it on the piercing for 2 - 3 min. Repeat with the other towel using cool water. Then clean with the soap.
This extra step helps to reduce swelling and speed the healing process.
Avoid touching the piercings except when cleaning.
Yes, piercings do take months to completely heal, but after a few weeks you CAN safely change the earrings provided you do it quickly, use pure earrings (crappy ones from Claires or similar stores contain nickel. Some people are allergic to it and it could cause an infection in a new piercing.)
DO NOT USE:
Neosporin
Hydrogen Peroxide
Any type of cream or ointment
The best thing for it is the Dial soap.
Ointments and creams create a breeding ground for bacteria and hydrogen peroxide will dry the piercing out.

Generally speaking its roughly 3-6 weeks. Some people heel faster than others, but 10 days is definately NOT long enough. Was this a professional piercing or did some friends do it for you?
If they still hurt, they are not healed...even if it has been months.

I just did too-
For the second time.
The last time I got my ears double pierced, they got infected.
They told me to leave it in for only 20 days, and it got infected.
The second time, I left it in for 7 weeks, and it was not infected.
My ears are doing perfectly fine.
So, believe your friends, they are right.
Or else your ears may get infected.
If it still hurts, though-
Are you cleaning it 2-3 times a day?
Are you twisting them atleast 5 times a day each?
If you answered no to these questions, that maybe the reason why your ears have been hurting.
And you need to start cleaning and twisting NOW!
Or else this can lead to infection.
If you answered yes to all the questions but they still hurt, go back to the ear piercing place and either:
A.) Get them redone
B.) Ask about why your ears are hurting and how to prevent this from happening.
Well, hope that helps!
Good luck!
Have a great day!

I was told to leave them in for 3-4 weeks and to twist them every day so that skin doesn't attach to the earring. Make sure you clean them morning and night by putting the earring cleaner (I got it when my ears were pierced) on a q-tip or cottonball and gently rubbing it on the back and front of the earlobe. If they continue to hurt you might be allergic to the earring's metal, hopefully not.

My 2nd holes took a lot longer to heal than my original first piercings. I'd leave them be, keep them clean, until they stop hurting.
If you change them, make sure the posts of the earrings you change to are surgical steel -- less chance of infection.
Good luck!

I would keep them in for at least two months. Also, go to your local piercing parlor or Hot Topic to get some H2Ocean. That stuff works wonders. It comes in a spray and a cream.

You need to clean your ears everynight and every morning so you don't get an infection. The best thing to do is leave the studs in until they don't hurt anymore. You don't want your ears to fall off do you?? LOL JK!
