hm... its hard to say which one is better ... because they have developed their own unique style of playing. Steve Vai have more emotional kindda thing in his solos and a very jazzy rock type of tones, while Joe Satriani have more kindda a Modern, Out of Space kindda feeling, he play alot of bluessy lick. so the conclusion is that they have developed their own unique kind of playing .. and its no where to be compared
