A certain mutation in E. Coli causes the LAC repressor to irreversibly bind to the operator. How would this affect the cell??

With the repressor in the operator, the lac operon will not be turned on and the enzymes necessary for lactose metabolism will never be made. This mutant could not grow with lactose as its only source of carbohydrate.
