sorry, but I have to dissagree with many of the replies people have posted.
Bootcut are definitly NOT fashionable. They are easy to wear (for some), and sensible, but are very vanilla/beige/bland.
Unless your style icon is Victoria Beckham (awful awful awful), as she is partial to a bootcut jean, I would say GO FOR THE SKINNIES!!
Skinny or straight leg jeans look great with flat (or heeled boots) over the top, with flat pumps in the spring, AMAZING with high heel shoes (your legs will go on for miles!). Lovely with a shift dress worn over the top, or basic t-shirt and chunky accessories, or a nice big knit jumper... the wonder of the skinny goes on and on.
And if you dont usually spend that much on jeans I say splash out and buy them, its good to treat yourself every now and again!! And you can always buy some chunky accessories next month...
Only one word of advice- make sure if you buy the skinny jeans you get them very tight, as they will stretch within a matter of hours (and no one looks good in baggy skinny jeans). You'll get used to the discomfort and not being able to bend your knees!

Skinny jeans.
Why is everyone saying you have to be skinny to wear them? They are only called skinny as they are tapered to the lower leg, not skinny the whole way. This is why there are different sizes. Skinny jeans were known as regular jeans or tapered jeans in the 80s. Everyone wore them and no one was left out. If a women is curvy the skinny jean cut accentuates that. It looks better on curves. It lets you show your shape but not have everything out there. Very attractive but not over the top.
Major jean styles usually have an 8 to 10 year life span. The skinny jeans will be around for quite some time.

It's really up to you but I would say just splurge! Trust me, it won't hurt that much to spend a little extra. Skinny pants are really in right now and they look so cute. Especially if you pair them with some really cute heels. Of course, if you'd rather buy a whole new outfit then go for it, but since you've never owned a pair of skinny jeans just consider that too. Once you go skinny you won't even look at the boot cut jeans twice. Have fun shopping!!! That's what it's all about. Life is too short to stress over spending a little extra on clothes. Enjoy your money and enjoy your new wardrobe!

Nah get boot cut, they will always be in fashion but I'm sure the skinny jeans will go out not long after they come in. They only really suit supper slim girls who are over 5'8'' too. If you are one of them then go for it, but they won't always look fashionable. I find with new look, the jeans always lose their shape, they end up looking baggy on me after they have been through the wash a few times.

Boot cut jeans will be more "in style" for longer than the skinny jeans..if that matters to you. Go with whichever pair you like better.

I'd have to go for boot cut every time. I do lots of walking and have developed somewhat ample calves ... skinny jeans just accentuate these, if I can actually get the things on in the first place.

i absolutely hate skinny jeans. I have way to much curve to ever have any hope of making them look decent. A nice dark rinse pair of boot cut jeans are way more versatile in my wardrobe.
if you have the super skinny body to pull it off, buy the skinny ones.

Skinnies if you will wear them mostly going out, boot cut if they are more for day time
boot cut will never go out of fashion but i predict skinnies will be short lived - there is going to be a 90's combats revival

I say get the bootcut. They are inexpensive and look great on you. But get the skinnies only if you have cute boots to wear over them and they fit you ok...plus they may go out of style faster...
