I have two Dysons, one for home and the other for a vacation home. I had an Oreck. The Dyson is hands down the better of the two. I have found they start at around $300 rather than $600 as previously stated. I won't ever buy another vacuum unless Dyson invents a better one and the ones I have break down. We have a house full of BIG dogs that shed. My Dyson never clogs up or stops having the same suction from beginning to end. My only wish is that I didn't have to empty the canister so often, but bear in mind my dogs. My mother has one and I can vacuum her entire house and never have to empty it until I'm finished but she doesn't have animals like I do. I got mine at Target, but I know Sears has them also.

As far as Oreck goes, the untis that are used in hotels are not the same units that you can buy off of the shelf.

We use a Riccar at my house. One of the great things about it is that the cord is long enough for us to plug it in in the living room, and it will reach the entire house without having to move the cord. Also, it has a switch on the handle that allows you to turn off the beater bar (brushes) of you are going from carpet to hard floors, and turn it back on when back on the carpet. It has 7 stage HEPA filtration, and a 15 yr warrantee....

I have found that you definitely get what you pay for with tools and appliances.

I don't have one, but the next one that I will purchase is the Dyson. A friend has one and was raving on about it. There's a show called "the shopping bags" which airs in Canada. They review all kinds of consumer products. They had compared the Dyson to almost every other vacumn that was out there. No of the others came close to the Dyson.

I have a Dyson, just love it. There not cheap, start from about $600 but well worth it. Company is great to deal with too.

I love the Dyson. Once I used it, my 6 year old carpets looked brand new again.

Im currently on a quest to find a good one myself. I have a bissel and it plugs up like every few uses. I wont buy another, the suction is completely diminished.

I bought a Bissell for $45.00 and have had it for 3 years with no problems. I actualy believe that the cheaper models have fewer problems.

Oreck. They're lightweight, they work well, and they are used by hotel staff, so you know they're durable.
