My wife and I are planning a trip to Cape Cod, but don't know which town to go to. There are several towns in Cape Cod and not sure which one would be the best. Basically we are looking for an area that is close to the beach and has a nice town for shopping and dining. Does anyone have any information or know where I can find detailed information about each town. Thank you.

Hyannis is the best place to go to for people visiting the cape. It has the Cape Cod Mall, but even better which as a Cape Codder I even love is Main St in Hyannis. it has a ton of little cape like shops and some great food. Also, Rt.6A is a road that goes from one end of the cape to the other end. It has old big homes and a few good shops on the way. However if you like a road thats a bit jumping hit RT.28. You can start in Hyannis and go to Dennis. it has shops and shops and shops.

Now for beaches the best beach's are in Yarmouth or Dennis. West Dennis Beach is the big one that everyone goes to.

Food, CAPT PARKERS ON RT.28 Yarmouth! they have the best clam chowda on cape cod. and the rest of the food is great.

Also hit up the Christmas Tree shop!

I've always found the south side of the Cape having the nicer beaches...or at least the water is a lot warmer! So check out any town near Falmouth or Hyannis, but find a rental on the south side.

There's a nice motel on Old Silver Beach called Sea Creast that's awesome and right on the beach. You'd have to drive to downtown Falmouth though...not too far away.

Check out private home rentals too on iBtraveling.com, a site that I always find a good deal. Or perhaps there's a package deal for you too? I'm sure you'll find something.

Note that Hyannis will have plenty of traffic in the summer months though, whereby Falmouth is not so busy. That's why I pick Old Silver Beach. It's very pretty there and you can always do a day trip to Orleans say...or Hyannis for that matter.

Wish you the best!

The Cape is relatively small (meaning you can go from one end to the other within two hours - -pending traffic) The north side has Cape Cod Bay, the water is cooler, the beaches are flat (at low tide) and are usually busy. South side beaches have warmer water, usually more waves and are ver busy. Best bet, take a look at each town - they all have something to offer. Most people prefer to stay near the center of the Cape (Mid-Cape) so they are near the beaches, shopping and restauarants - but still close enough to day-trip anywhere. Have fun, the Cape is beautiful!

Hyannis is a good place to base yourself for exploring the rest of the Cape.Hire a car,the best way to see the cape. There are many good restaruants everywhere on Cape Cod.Also good shopping.Route 6a which runs along the top of the cape is one of the top 6 scenic drives in the USA.I live in Ireland, and travel to Cape Cod on vacation twice a year for the last 15 years.Experiance has taught me to go there slightly out of the main holiday season as traffic is a lot less on the roads. Also,ANY beach on the cape is fantastic.Good luck, enjoy your trip

1.) They can be. Renting a place in the "cool" areas of the cape during the summer can cost a lot. 2.) Depends what you like to do. If you like the beach, yes. The cape has a lot of great beaches, great views, and family attractions. The cape also has one of the few good spots to surf in the Northeast US. Provincetown (the tip of the cape) is a different universe then the rest of the Cape. It is a "gay Disneyland", has nude beaches, and has shows at night. It also has whale watches and Seal Tours. If you like vacations where you run around seeing attractions, the Cape can be boring. 3.) Not really. It's more a place you rent a cottage. Cars really are required.

I would suggest that you visit the Hyannis/Craigsville Beach area. There area alot of nice beaches in the area as well as great shopping along Main Street in Hyannis. You can also do day trips over to the islands (Vineyard and Nantucket) via the harbor or the airport.

Chatham is nice, quiet, just touristy and cute enough with a huge beach .... Check it out. Do not miss the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Cape Cod, MA if you like nature ... our stories below

If you don't mind being around a lot of gay people go to Provincetown. The beaches are beautiful (that I remember) and there's an endless supply of weird little shops to browse. Street musicians, nice dining, and an overall unforgettable vacation.

Try Hyannis or Falmouth. . .They both have a lot to do, and easy access to the ferry system, so you can get to the islands if you want for a nice day trip.
