i've noticed this install other os thingy on my screen under system settings. What is this? i've formatted a partition or whatever, like it told me to. what's next?

Hmmm, PS3 needs it's operating system? Sorry bro If I knew the answer I'd tell you, I'm guessing your best bet is to call sony themselves and hopefully they will be able to resolve the issue for you
