Did any one at any time think that the verdict of Saddam would have been other then a death sentence? He was tried by his archenemies the Shiites and Saddam did kill quite a few of them.

If you have any evidence that he was innocent then please share with use. If you have something that indicates that the evidence against him was false then once again, share with the class. I am of the opinion that he committed brutal crimes, he was caught, he was tried, and he was punished. The trial was public and the entire world was given a chance to see what was going on. The evidence and witnesses were overwhelming.

I do not see it as an assassination. It was a punishment for his crimes. An assassination indicates that he was murdered for political reasons. Although there are political implications, there are valid reasons for his execution.

There were only two options in this case, execute him or lock him in a cell for the rest of his life. Letting him go free was not ever an option. The idea of keeping him alive because he would be a martyr if executed is a little off as well. The people who would use Saddam Hussein as a martyr do not need a martyr. They will keep committing their crimes with or without one. If Saddam was held in a prison, they would have used his imprisonment as an excuse for more death and destruction. An applicable moral from Aesop's is "Any excuse will serve a tyrant."

First of all, Saddam wasn't assassinated. He was tried, found guilty, and sentenced to death by hanging. I'm glad that the world has one less terrorist. I wish it could have been me to pull the lever.

I think the Iraqis meted out justice and freed themselves from the fear of that monster. He died quickly and with little or no pain, which is far more humane than the deaths of the millions who died at his hands or at his command.
I hope that they will be able to go forward now, to live in peace and govern themselves, and that our soldiers will be able to come home.

Sorry if this sounds cruel, I just don't think he was made to suffer enough, like his victams...On CNNN they are saying he went out with dignity...yeah..while shouting death to america, death to bush.....
I have been there, seen the piles of dead bodies, he got off easy, if infact he even is dead...

At this point, it is not really important anymore. That said, I think hanging anyone is extreme and unecessary. Some sort of imprisonment would be just as effective. State sponsored killing leads to the making of martyrs.

He should have stayed alive to rot in jail. We do not have the right to take another human beings' life, not matter how many people he killed or how many people he terrorized. It saddens me to think how little we regard life. It was not necessary to kill him.
