Alaska also offered a bottle neck for any subs coming out of the north sea and monitored the Ice Caps. More Important to the American Control of the Pacific were the Refuling Points on Wake Island, Gaum, and many other Small Islands. Bases in Pearl Harbor, Japan, South Korea, The Phillipens, and other Points along the Pacific. Coupled with Long Range Bombers and Carrier Groups allowed for the Complete Control of the Pacific.
