Madison wrote the Bill of Rights and did a lot to help the cause of separation of church and state.

Lincoln saw the country through the Civil War.

FDR got us through the Depression and most of WWII and generally helped us get going in a more progressive, fair and equitable direction.

What's a United Statesian?
You mean AMERICAN presidents?
My top three are (in no particular order):
1. FDR-led us through both the Great Depression, and most of WWII.
2. Lincoln- Led us through the Civil War. It was a dark day when he was assassinated.
3. Reagan-His economic policies led us to the surplus we had throughout the late eighties and early nineties. He was a good, strong person. He also oversaw the end of the Cold War.

Not a Democrat or a Republican.

Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and George Washington. With FDR and Truman close behind. Oddly enough im a Republican. Ha ha, FDR dealt with a real war without taking away America's freedoms, look up a little something called the Smith act in 1940, and the Japanese internment camps, though I still like him and dont grudge his decisions for he was a great man.
