developmentally disabled adults, people with traumatic brain injuries, mentall ill people, crack babies, terminally ill patients?

we cannot continue to support these have-nots!! They will find their own way of surviving. God forbid someone that makes $500,000 a year has to give a portion of their income to help those less fortunate. What kind of heartless f**ks are we?

Often in our society, if we don't actually see something, we can convince ourselves it doesn't exist. That doesn't make it any less a reality though...

I think we need to decide what kind of society we want to live in. Most capitalists shrink at the thought of any form of socialism, but that is merely out of greed and ignorance - they immediately jump to conclusions of communist russia when socialism is suggested. The wide gap of disparity between the haves and have nots in America needs to be addressed - afterall, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. How can a country call itself the greatest in nation in the world if they leave their 'have-nots' behind?!?!? More money needs to be spent on social systems, like medical care - and less on the military. The millions (or perhaps billions) spent each day to support the effort in Iraq (a war whose goal was to protect the freedoms of a people) could care for many needy, helpless, sick Americans. Where are the priorities?

How sad that you do not understand things.

First, step back and ask yourself how much other people have a right to YOUR paycheck? By right of entitlement, and under penalty of government coercion, should I be able to claim, say, 15% of YOUR paycheck? Why not?

I'll tell you why not. Because the government has no Constitutional authority to do so. I hope you and others like you think on this and understand its implications. The government, in taking money from others and giving it out as charity, is violating the Constitutional limits on its powers. Does this not bother you?

Just because you might agree with the outcome, do you agree with the method of a government operating lawlessly? You should, because they are violating your rights and freedoms when they do so.

It is not charitable, not noble, not commendable to help others by taking it from someone else's pocket. It is theft, regardless of the purpose.

You have no right, no moral authority to call other people "heartless f**ks" just because you haven't the intellect to understand the issue.

Here's a quote from an author of the Constitution:

"The government of the United States is a definite government, confined to specified objects. It is not like state governments, whose powers are more general. Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government." -- James Madison

Clear enough, brainless f**k?

It is not a question of helping the needy, it is a question of the method of providing that help. Stealing money, even for a good cause, is still stealing.

If I earn my money, no matter how much it is, then it is by all rights mine, and nobody elses. Nobody has a right to my property except for me. Who are you that you have a "right" to take what I have rightly earned? Are you God? By what moral authority does stealing from me suddenly change from a crime to a good act?

If you have more money than you need, and you do not help your fellow man, that makes you an evil person. However, stealing from me is just as evil. Two wrongs do not make a right.

How heartless and stupid are you that the only solution you can come up with is theft? Do what you can to help them yourself. ASK me to help them. Convince me that it is the best thing for all of society if I do (which it is). But don't STEAL what belongs to me! Don't punish success, reward kindness.

The reason these people must be helped is because the have not. It would be possible to just let them fend for themselves, but this would create a crime problem and they would end up in some institution or another, being cared for at public expense. I suppose another alternative would be to simply round them all up and kill them, but this was already tried by the Nazis and was a large factor in a certain war.

I agree. We should all work and contribute to society and be compensated based on our need not our contribution.

Although a communist, I must live in a capitalist society. I give as much as possible to NGOs so people can be helped. I just bet you do not give anything to charity. In fact, I bet you don't even have a job.

Your question reminds me of Nazi Germany.
People remember the slaughter of 6 million Jews but they forget that they also slaughtered the disabled and mentally ill because they just were flawed and not productive in society.

there is a lawsuit going on for an Illegal immigrant that stole a Ferrari... the lawyers argument was he was depressed because he couldn't afford it so he just stole it.... he is poor and by being exposed to the rich and famous it has caused him pain and anguish and he shouldn't be punished for stealing the car....

is this the same... probably not but it does show that there is no limit to some..........

If your were educated in any way you would know that those are the people the republican party does want to receive help. Not the able bodied people milking the welfare system.

I hope this is irony. If it isn't, we have become a heartless nation when we can't help the less fortunate.
