7: Number of days in the week.

7: Panties in the kind of "One-a-day" panty sets that men think are just great as gifts, and women detest. (Women: urge the manufacturers to put out men's underwear sets labelled "Winter," "Spring," "Summer" and "Fall!")

7: The "Seven Sisters," a famous series of up and down hilly chalk cliffs on England's South Coast.

7: The Number of Pillars of Wisdom. (Title of the book by Lawrence of Arabia.)

7: Secret Seven --- the number of main child characters in a well-known series of books by Enid Blyton, a prolific English children's author.

7: Number of holes for eggs in the simply neatest and energy-saving egg boiler I used abroad last year. (Six holes, making a hexagon-like outer ring, surrounded the seventh.)

7: Number of players in "Seven-a-side" soccer or cricket games, popular among children in particular in informal settings.

7: The number of Heavens one could be in, presumably --- no-one ever seems to claim that they're in "Eighth, Ninth, ... Heaven."

Not to mention Ingmar Bergen's "The Seventh Seal."

8: Hotdog buns; and

8: Number of oarsmen (oarspersons?) in the traditionally largest rowing teams. (The Cambridge and Oxford male "eights" race against one another on the Thames every Easter.) Also:

"8 days a Week" --- at least according to the Beetles! And:

8: Buttons on some button cards available at haberdashery stores.

8: Number of plays in an annual, short (10 minute) series of plays performed each evening at 8 p.m. in Santa Cruz, California: "Eight Tens at Eight."

11: Number of players in each Cricket side. Each side is actually called an "eleven" as in "Now that the Australian innings is over and its eleven is out, the English eleven will go in until it's out. The Australians will probably send their bowlers in until they're out." It's all very straightforward, as you can see. Also:

11: Number of players in a soccer side.

11: Number of main characters in the original Ocean's Eleven (1960), a film by Lewis Milestone; and:

11: Number of main characters in the remake of Ocean's Eleven(2001), a film by Steven Soderberg.

11: Number of disciples who didn't betray Christ (ignoring Peter, who I believe merely "denied him thrice" before the cock crowed?)

7, 8, and 11: the number of non-zero individual digits (i.e. excluding 0, as in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 in the decimal system) in numbers expressed in number systems with bases 8, 9 and 12 respectively.

Live long and prosper.
