I just ot a detention (first one!) for chewing gums, once, and without any warnings. Doesnt this seem a tad bit over it? And, Im an A plus student so it wasnt like I had other gum-chewing or misbehaving credits.

well, the rules were never reviewed like teachers should be doing, although none of them do. SO, I wasnt even conscious about the rules.

Getting detention for chewing gum, regardless of it being a rule, is just stupid. There are more important things for teachers and administrators to worry about than students chewing gum!

If the teachers never said anything about it, yea it would be fair to at least get one warning. Once I got detention (first time ever), about 2 weeks after school had started because I was late. The bell rang and was about 5 feet or less from the class. I could see inside of it when it rang. I didnt think he would keep me all periode but he did. Life is sometimes not fair. Just deal with it. Its just a detention, there are things far more worse than that in life.

The same thing happened to me in middle school. It was the most ridiculous thing ever to happen to me. I was also an A+ student, never talked back to the teachers and to some I was a teachers pet. My mom also thought it was really stupid for me to stay after school for chewing gum. Supposedly b/c the school was carpeted it was against the rules. So I sucked it up and went. To make matters even worse, I had to write 300 sentences that I would never chew gum in class again.

Yo the same thing was happening at my school but if the teacher has said it b4 that yall cant chew gum in class, even if she catches you for the first time she can still give you a detention. Lol middle school/ high school detentions are not so bad. All they make you do is stay another 1hour.

No. Im sure your teacher explained the rules. Its also probably a school-wide rule. If youre an A student then its expected more of you to follow the rules. To be an example for all the other students. You shouldn't need a warning. You just shouldnt have been chewing gum.

If gum-chewing is against the rules, then it's not ridiculous to get a detention. Whether or not you get a detention should have nothing to do with whether or not you're an Honors student. Just don't chew gum next time and you'll be fine.

A lot of schools have ridiculous rules, you just have to learn to work around them. One time i got a saturday morning detention for being late to class and i had to spend 4 hours picking up garbage on the side of the road.

its probably a school rule. i know when i went to school, something like the 1st day, the 1st class we all went over the rules and there was even something we had to sign!! even if you didnt know, thats no excuse, ignorance of the laws (or rules) doesnt mean you get to break them. i guess now you know not to chew gum in school

Not at all. If you are old enough to spell ridiculous correctly, you are old enough to know that since kindergarten at EVERY school EVERYWHERE you can't chew gum. The teacher did the right thing.
