I am thinking of getting my belly button pierced, but I am also a very active equestrian. I am wondering what kind of problems (or if any) will come about after getting my belly pierced and go to my riding lessons. Thanks for all of your answers and advice!

Just wanted to let y'all know - I ride all english. I don't ride western so I wouldn't have the saddle horn to deal with!

Hi I had my Navel pierced and for the first 2 months I used one of those large tapes (sticky bandages) to stick it over when i was doing anything that might cause it to be come invected. Also i cleaned it 6 to 10 times a day. When i was laying in the bath i layed for a long time so i could turn the ring while i was in teh water so it would clean the inside to. You will be fine. I did alot of activities. Only the first week was a little painful but its because it forms a little crust aroudn the ring all the time. If you clean it all the itme.....it will be fine.... Enjoy... Its nice having a navel ring.....i got a tongue piercing now to. and that is even better :)

I want to give you a major word of caution from personal experience. I was young and crazy once and decided to "rebel" in college and get my navel pierced. Well I learned very quickly how much you stomach comes into contact with things in every day life. The final straw before I took it out was after working with one of the horses I was training I went to dissmount, and like all english riders I dropped my stirrups and swung might right leg over and slid down as I had billions of times before. However this time had a very painful ending. My navel ring (just a simply loop) got caught on either the stirrup leather or iron and just about ripped through the skin. I began to bleed and had a huge blood spot on my shirt before I could even get the horse untacked to deal with myself. I used a pair of hoof nippers and needle nose plyers and took it out then and there. I'm not speakign against the belly ring, just be carful when dismounting.

Horse Belly Button Rings

The only problem I had was my pants rubbed a bit on the piercing and it would get a bit infected. The odd time I went over a jump it would pull a bit, but I have had it for 10 yrs and still riding. Just make sure when you are done, clean it really well and it will be fine.

haha, i'm extremely compedative in breakaway roping and barrel racing and i've seen it all, including things getting ripped out, clothing ripped off, and unique injuries of all kinds.
The only belly ring incident/pain i've seen was a friend whose button-down shirt caught her ring and the saddle horn symotaneously, ripping her ring out in one big pull.

other than that...a few cramps, some soreness for a few weeks, and aching stomach muscles, you're good! but beware the dirt. belly piercings get infected easily and the dust and sweat that comes with riding will further irritate the piercing. wear a bandage that covers the entire ring to keep out nastiness.

While the piercing is new and fresh make sure that it is covered while you are at the barn. I remember coming home filthy from being at the barn for a day. Bandange it before you go, and clean it really well when you get home. You should be fine.

Unless you hit the horn or something like that, I think you would be fine.

--- Well you know as well as anyone then if you ride English that you generally use the muscles of your stomach a bit more than if you were to ride Western....however, I would say that it is totally up to how it feels, I would try it and if its too painful or causes discomfort I would definately let it heal a bit more before getting back up there!

you shouldn't have a problem as long as you don't wear dangly rings. it might hurt a little at first(i won't lie to you) but you will get used to it. if you wear a stud or a barbell, you should be fine. i hope i helped some

Make sure your riding pants don't cover your piercing or it will pull.
