Yes. The "western World" is a term that is associated with Christianity and Western thought. The philosophers of Aristotle, PLato, etc. Seeing that the vast majority of the latin countries are catholic they would be considered part of the western world. Now many of them would not be considered as part of the Industrialized world. Sadly, many of the latin countries are part of the 3rd world

Yes and no depends on where are you.

For most people in America the answer is yes, most people from Argentina to Mexico believe they are part of the 'western world' for two reasons

1.- Geographically speaking Europe and America are the Western World.
2.- The socio/political status of American and European nations are basically the same.

However, for most people in the United States and it's area of influence the 'western world' is comprised of Western Europe, The United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand mirroring what the US considers to be the industrialized nations.

Seems like some people here think that western world = wealthy. Beeing part of a civilization has nothing to do with beeing wealthy or not. Latin America has a western religion, speaks a western language, has a western way of life, western achtecture, western food, western clothes, a western form of government etc. Plus, all Latin Americans countries has a minority of the western race (whites, majority in Argentina and Uruguay). This minority of the "western race" generally rules the politics and economy. And almost all Latin American countries has a majority of people with at least a fraction of "western blood".

It has nothing to do with beeing wealthy or not.

Sadly, no. In the famous words of Henry Kissinger, "Nothing of interest happens below the equator."

Any country that includes a significant mix of non-Euro blood is pretty much ruled out. This means countries like Spain and Italy and Greece are currently on the edge of it, thanks to the Moors.

Ironic that the two countries that defined western civilization, Greece and Italy, now operate on the fringes.

But, Latin America is not considered part of the western world. Consider this:

The Group of Eight (G8) consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Together, these countries represent about 65% of the world economy.

The permanent five members of the Un Security Council are China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Notice a pattern here of who is excluded? The entire Southern hemisphere is out.
