Defensive player of the year is an accomplishment of what a player has done in the season as far as helping out the team, making critical game changing plays, and maintaining consistency week in and week out. Jason Taylor showed all those this year with creating several plays that helped put the Dolphins on top in their wreck of a season. Plus, Champ Bailey is becoming a feared CB, people are scared to throw his way and run his way. Don't expect him to get this award anytime soon.

Only shutdown corner since the great Ronnie Lott, Best corner in the last 15 years and you're right, he should have been defensive player of the year. Over cheater Merriman and Taylor. There are a lot of good DE's there is only one Shutdown Corner that can defend the pass like a great corner, the run like a linebacker, and hit like a safety. 7 INT's inside the 10 yardline. That alone just shows how clutch he is. Go Champ!!!!

I agree, Champ had a year for the ages, on par with Deion's 1994 campaign (when he was with the Niners) or Rod Woodson in 1993.
Also, this is an era in which Defensive Backs have absolutely no margin of error since the NFL knows that high scores and touchdowns are more fun to watch than shutdown corners.

Champ needs just a couple more good years to start thinking about Canton.

Rarely do I think you could really flip a coin to get the answer, but between Taylor and Champ this year, it was an absolute toss up. I say had the Broncos made the playoffs it shoulda gone to Champ, but since neither team made the playoffs, I think it was a coin toss.

Champ is probably the greatest DB ever though. He removes a HALF OF THE FIELD for QBs to consider. That is just sick!!!

i'm no longer knocking Champ Bailey in any way yet come on!!! Jason Taylor is a monster obtainable on the sphere. i'm no longer in basic terms choosing him reason i'm a Miami fan yet nonetheless, i think of very virtually all of united statesa. can accept as true with me in this one. 13.5 sacks, fifty six tackles, and a couple of INT (the two for TD's). He additionally stuckup for his teamates while lots of the 1972 group began to assert that the present group has no heart. He talked the talked and walked the walked against the then undefeated Bears and beat them.

I did see he got a well deserved unanimous vote for All Pro today. Champ, LT, and Jason Taylor were the only 3 to get unanimous votes.

Jason taylor had the better year. Sure, Bailey had a fine year, but Taylor was phenominally good this year. Without him anchoring the pass rush, the Fish just might have been deciding who to draft right after the Raiders' pick.

Because there at least 3 other players more deserving, that's why. Not even close rto being the best ever. Remember what the Steelers did to him in the play-offs last year?
