It's not a problem, rap can be amazing. Great poetry, fabulous beats. How much have you even heard?

More black people listen to rap than white people because it was born in large part out of social unrest amongst urban youths. The music still speaks in large part to the inequalities black people continue to face.

Just like not all great pop or rock music is played on the radio, you can't judge rap just by what you hear on the FM stations.

As a black person who's more into punk and metal and industrial (can a recommend some black people that play rock like Sevendust, Wicked Wisdom, Bad Brains, Fishbone, Lenny Kravitz) and who knows several black people that don't really listen to rap, I'd say it really hasn't reached all of us.

But....more black people like rap because it is a black originated artform. A lot more black people like soul, jazz and RnB too so you have to expand your scope past just rock.

Also, honestly, it's one of the few genres where you are likely to see an overwhelming majority of black people.

Because white people get called wiggers if they like rap. And I know several black people that dislike white rappers, and they want rap to stay black people's music.

I used to like rap, but now I don't like it because it is very sexist and some of it is racist as well.

Many people dislike rap because it is sexist and racist, too.

Some people dislike it because it's "too ghetto."

The same reason most white people tend to sing country, and Hispanic people sing cumbias....lol. It's just cultural. It just depends what you grow up around and what influences you have.

Because they are followers.

Remember when black men used to sing? Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, The Commodores, Earth Wind and Fire, sad to lose the genre...

Black people, even though they do not like to talk as much as white women, rap more because they can't sing. However, they have the speed. You see, because most rappers are creative and quick, they are able to make funny lines and put their thoughts into words quickly. They basically live off of their talents.

Because when rapped originated, it was relatable more to african-americans then to caucasians. Nowadays, if your ghetto, hite, black, spanish, asian, etc. you can pretty much relate. There's a rap song for anyone out there now.
