The Patriot is an excellent movie and Mel Gibson did an amazing job as usual.

Yet another piece of evidence to support how much Mel Gibson hates the English, hes done it the scottish way now hes done it the american way... despite Mel gibsons obvious hatred for England I thought it was a very good film, very sad in parts but fantastic acting from Jason Isaac, hes extremely good at being a baddy lol. Bit graphic when the canon ball took that guys leg off. But on the whole a good film to watch.

The history in the movie is where you find it.
The hero is loosely based upon Francis Marion, also known as the Swamp Fox, and chronicles the events of Charleston and the American Revolution.
The climax of the film is a fairly good representation of a battle that was called "The Cowpens" which took place in South Carolina. Somewhat true to history, there Brigadier General Daniel Morgan asked his 700 militia to give him "two good volleys" and then retreat. The British army then over pursues and is enveloped and destroyed by the Colonial force.
The main villain is no doubt a tribute to Banastre Tarleton and while he is a bit over the top, it does make for good entertainment.
While some here may feel that story is not historically accurate, I don't feel it needs to be in order to reflect the hearts and minds of a people who rose up against the crown of tyranny and suffered for freedom.

I love that movie. I'm not a huge Mel Gibson fan right now, but I still cry every time the little girl runs after her father, screaming "Papa, papa, I'll say whatever you want, just don't go." That gets me every time! It's a great movie and Mel Gibson is really good in it.

I've been keeping a respectful distance from Mr. Gibson sometime toward the end of the Lethal Weapon series. That last one was a real clunker. Reminds me of the stuff Josef Goebbels had people do to bolster public moral except that the Nazis made no pretense of any ' free agents. ' You did it or else. Like it works here.

One of the best movies of Mr. Gibson. Just beside Braveheart. I don´t care about history accurancy, as a movie is simply great.

I didn't like it. It was violent and predictable. That stuff about hanging his son never happened. It just gave Mad Mel an excuse to go on a rampage and kill a lot of English soldiers. Reminded me of Braveheart - which was also very violent and gave MG an excuse to kill English soldiers.

i thought it was ok. in movies and on history channle shows they mainly focus on the war in the north. it was a refresher to see the war from the southern states point of view.

Not sure on any historical accuracy but I enjoyed it and it is one of the few DVD's I own that doesn't belong to the kids.
