'Twas my esteemed grandfather, my good man. He was a-foolin' around with a hot poker and discovered that with judicious application of the hot-rod and some lead he could make various objects stick together! Marvellous eh?

My ex Landlord once told me of story that happened shortly after D-Day (he was a tank driver) when he was in charge of some German prisoners they had captured, to keep themselves busy the germans made pots and pans by soldering aluminium together using powder, at the time this was very hard to do and they never let on to my landlord how they did it.
But sorry i don't know who invented it but it's a good story.

Lug the god of vulcan fire and iron smithing invented solder for his sons to play with.
Lug protects solderers today, even if they believe in him.
Some have called him Mercury, and they are not wrong.

Soldering has been around for centuries.
Armies have sprung up since man first decided to fight for what they believed was right and to take from others what they did not have for themselves.
