Then why are they putting it in childrens vitamins?
The only childrens vitamins that don't contain artificial sweeteners have hydrogenated vegetable fat in them!

Does anyone care?

lucy: i went to a high street health food chain today and if you read the labels for the multi-vits with calcium they all contain artificial sweetener except one. That one contains hydrogenated fat.
And since there are not that many high street health food chains in the UK ...

Rowdy: i'm was looking at vitamins with added calcium since my 3-year old refuses cow's milk, soy milk and cheese. And she can eat only so much dark green veg or yoghorts or soy sausages a day.

No I do not my daughter is 8 and 1/2 months old and aside from her bottle all she eats is fresh pureed fruits and veggies that I have made. hydrogenated oils=Trans fats, and as great as it is now that lots of products are trying to be trand fat free, theres a catch. If there is less then 1 g of trans fats per serving of a product they are not required to print that on the chart. However most people consume more then the serving size, in which chase you are then consuming at least 1 g of trans fat. So check the labels and if there are any hydrogenated oils dont but it!

Actually, yes, I do care. I didn't know this until I read your question. I believe that you can get children's vitamins that contain nothing artificial at some of the health food stores or through your chiropractor/nutritionist. I try to avoid hydrogenated oils as much as possible for my family. You'll find that's near impossible in most cases, it's in everything!

To start with, children shouldn't need vitamins if they have a balanced diet.....which is the parents responsibility.

I go out of my way to avoid hydrogenated fats. However, it not ususally that much of a problem as the foods they are generally in are no good for you anyway (e.g. dried soup, puddings, biscuits). If buying biscuits Iook for those made with butter.

I don't really know where you are getting your information from, but...I have a bottle of children's vitamins in front of me...they are made with sucrose and they DO NOT have hydrogenated vegetable fat in them. They are generic vitamins, as well.

thats scary....

they are really bad. studies suggest 1 gram a day of hydrogenated fat can put you at high risk for coronary disease.

these fats never existed before chemical engineers invented them. our bodies simply dont know how to process them, and they are very damaging.

i would definitely find another brand. ideally these should not be in our diet at all.
