Depends on how familiar I am with him. Stranger or someone I don't see often, a hand shake is timeless and is never wrong in the Americas. Someone I see often and am close to is an informal verbal greeting such as hello does just fine. Greetings will vary from region to region and age to age. I'm almost 44 and "Hello Jim" works just fine for me in North Florida. If I were 20 years younger it might be "What's up dog?" So there is no "right answer.

Hell Yeah, I Think It's Okay!!!! It's Nice To Come In "First" Place Once In A While. Plus, It Makes It A Little Easier On Us. You Don't Even Have To Say Much, Just Ask "Hey, What Are You Doing This Weekend"?? Just As Casual As That. We Don't Need A "Smooth-Cool-Playa" Pick-Up Line, Like The Females Expect From The Guys!! Majority of time it is with a handshake. If haven't seen a friend for an extended length of time may give him a friendly hug. I am a 51 year old from Canada.
