After the last shot of Depo Provera, it can take over 6 months for the drug to leave the body. Side effects may linger until the drug is completely gone. After discontinuing Depo Provera, there may also be a 6 to 12 month delay in return of fertility. You might try cleansing techniques to detox or eliminate the synthetic hormone from where it is stored in your body's tissues: drink lots of water every day, eat lots of fresh raw organic vegetables, drink raw vegetable juice, sweat in a steam room or sauna, get lots of exercise and fresh air. You can also ask at a health food store about herbal formulas or teas that help detoxify your body or that balance female hormones, or talk with a naturopathic physician or herbalist.

I have known people that were on the Depo shot for many years and when she decided to go off of it to try and have children, they tried for years and no luck. They went to the doctor and found out that she could no longer have children and it was linked to the Depo shot. Whether they are telling the truth I don't know but I am going by what I have been told. This may be rare too but I really don't know about any side effects. I do know that it does take some time for the shot to totally get out of your body but that is the same for all birth contorl.

Well... I have taken the depo shot for years, going on and off for periods of time. It is HIGHLY unlikely that one would become pregnant on depo as it is a very strong drug. However, if you delayed getting your injection past the recommended time frame, you possibly could have IF your doctor did not do a pregnancy test to ensure that you were not pregnant before giving you another injection. I have never had a doctor give the next shot IF I didn't all within the recommended time frame for the shot. They always and I do mean always give me a pregnancy test before re-injection.
The only side effect I have ever had getting off of depo, was the length of time it took my body to have a period. Sometimes it would take months.
The only side effects I had while on depo was weight gain & no periods. Other than that it was a miracle drug--I am VERY fertile person & loved not having periods and having the freedom of not taking pills, inserting protection, etc. I love it.

Some women get pregnant right off the depo shot and some have to go to a specialist to get pregnant.
I'd strongly recommend not getting the shot anymore, I was on it for four years and found out that after five years you need a bone density check as it seriously messes with your bone health.

I went off it I guess almost 2 years ago now. I don't remember any kinds of side effects. You do need to be careful if you don't want to get pregnant. But, its the same as going off any type of birth control, it may take a while for your body to adjust and be able to get pregnant, or you could get pregnant right away.

I heard it is really easy to get pregnant once off the Depo shot. If you have morning sickness, nausea, tiredness... You should go and talk to your doctor.
