This should be a very simple divorce. There's no property to divide, and no children as well. The only thing is that I am an American living in California and he now resides in Canada. I was unsure as to how to properly serve him, so I figured I would have a paralegal or someone just take care of the paperwork, filings and service of documents for me.

you can call the courthouse in your area. and you can file on your own. they will send it to his last known address and if he doesn't contest it you will be granted your divorce. if you have a local legal aid office in your area they can help with all of it. good luck.

You can do that provided he cooperates every step of the way. If there is any contest at all, then you will need to hire an attorney because a paralegal can only prepare documents. They are not LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW and are not allowed to give you legal advice.

if there is no property or kids, you will do just fine. if you are getting someone to do paperwork, i think you have your bases covered.
