I was just wondering what the response from Americans would have been if Bush had decided to just "turn the other cheek" after 9/11. Would there have been more attacks on the US? If nothing had been done to stop the terrorists from breeding hate, I'm pretty sure there would be a whole lot of Americans speaking out against the "lazy, coward, good for nothing" President who "did nothing"...just a thought....

I realize that Iraq didn't attack us on 9/11, my point is, they hated/hate us too....they would have, they try to...they just weren't the first ones to do it...

I totally agree and have often wondered this myself...
After 9/11 there was a surge of patriotism...there were many political cartoons, articles, emails, etc. circulating about how we were gonna get them back...the eagle sharpening his talons, Uncle Sam with his sleeve rolled up getting ready to take a shot...this was America's mindset, yet when Bush did retaliate, the people protested. Why? I have often thought that they just need something to complain about.

Essentially, he did do nothing. Initially he went after the right people, but after accomplishing very little except for making Afghanistan more 18th century than it already was, he turned the other cheek to the attackers and went after Iraq: a country that had absolutely nothing to do with the attacks.
Of the Arab countries, Iraq would have been the least likely to attack us. Actually, none of them would have blatantly attacked us, but the others certainly posed more of a threat in allowing terrorist organizations to train in their countries.

He DID do nothing--at least he did nothing to the people actually responsible for the attacks.
Instead he used the aftermath of 9/11 to attack two blameless groups--Iraq (in the form of an illegal invasion), and the American people (through a campaign of wide-ranging and divisive exchange of freedoms for security)
Imagine if after Pearl Harbour, the then-president had invaded Paraquay instead of attacking Japan? That's more or less what Bush did.

If Bush had done nothing he wouldn't have been reelected. He wasn't really elected but selected the first time.
Bush put his revenge before the priorities of the nation. remember his "Smoking gun in the form of a nuclear cloud" comment? Never came to be. Or when discussing Saddam his "He tried to kill my daddy" statement?
Iraq had nothing to do with 911. Nothing. But Bush took his eye off the target. OBL, to seek revenge against Saddam. Big mistake and probably impeachable. The war has been a mistake and a mess. Our young dying for his lies.
The better question would be what would Gore have done had he been President as he should have been.

You're exactly right. Those that hate him, will hate anything he does. If you remember, the USA did receive attacks from terrorist before he took office, but you don't hear much criticism about it now. The truth is, we have never had a perfect president and we have never been a perfect nation. But we do live in a wonderful country and we enjoy freedom and rights in ways that other nations only dream of. We do sound silly when we claim that the party we may belong to, is actually the flawless and perfect party, don't we?

I don't think anyone suggested doing nothing. The fact is that most of the hijackers that were involved in 9-11 were from Saudi Arabia, and there was no connection between 9-11 and Iraq. Bush and his cohorts have not disputed this. The problem is that we invaded Iraq with no reason for doing so. That is why the rest of the world did not follow suit. They knew it was unjustified.

If he had done nothing, the Bush haters would be complaining and whining about how lazy he was and how he allowed us to be attacked and sat and did absolutely nothing, etc. In the eyes of those who despise him, he can do nothing right. I wouldn't want to be him for all the gold in Fort Knox.

Imagine that a person has slapped me in the face and I punched the one which did not slapped me but the one whom I can bully. That is what Bush has done. Iraq was the last counrty to attack US. No Iraqi was present in the 9/11 attacks. It was not ruled by a religious zealot but by a natioanlist, atheist dictator.

By doing nothing, do you mean not going to Iraq or not going to Afghanistan? If Bush had not gone to Afghanistan to look for OBL, the people would have turned against him. The same cannot be said for Iraq.
