If you've never been before, I recommend that you rent your gear the first time out, to see if it's something you think youl do again. You might invest in a pair of polarized goggles for about 15-20 dollars on the cheap. Find a local sporting goods store that rents equipment and get yourself fitted and rented for a set of skis, poles, and I would recommend either snow pants, or a snow bib. Warm clothes, sunscreen, and wool socks are always a plus. Bring a change of clothes for afterwards.
You might also look up the ski resort where you are going. Most usually offer a package for beginners which includes a lift ticket, equipment rental, and a lesson.
