He won't get uncomfortable as long as you make frequent stops. It's important to stop every 1 to 1 1/2 hours when traveling, especially with an infant or toddler. Sitting in the car for longer than that can cause blood clots and muscle cramps.

Bring lots of activities for him as well. Someone suggested a dvd player, but that's not a good idea. It's dangerous for children under the age of 2 to watch television.

you can take the seat you have and make it more comfortable... use small pillows, any clothes to shove in the corners... etc... i use the alfa omega... its comfortable... but he was still a terror on our last trip to NY from NC... i had to stop every 2-3 hours, and get him out and hold him for a little bit... he screamed when i put him back in, i tried to feed him as much as possible, used music etc... plan for twice as long of a trip with a baby...

They will not care about the seat, as long as there are fun activities for them to do, they should be fine. My son loves, his car seat but he does get bored. Try getting a portable dvd player and harness so that you have something for them to do. Trust me they will get bored before uncomfortable!!!!
